Septimius Severus Bridge

Continue 8 km north from the Hisar Mausoleum. The bridge is on the Karasu River, 5 km south of the village of Gümüşpınar.

The ancient Septimius Severus Bridge is called Kırık Köprü, meaning “broken bridge” by local people. Built by the 4th Scythia Legion, it was an important crossing on the road that in those days ran from Dülük and Zeugma to Samsat. It was built of cut stone blocks, and was 30 metres long and 8 metres high. In its original state, it had 5 piers, only two of which still stand today.
